A new season of conversations, connections and opportunities for Athens' music ecosystem.
How can we strengthen Athens' music ecosystem, connect its different communities and create better opportunities for collaboration? And what can we learn from other European cities about supporting music professionals, businesses and cultural initiatives?
These are some of the questions MESO Events Hub is exploring through SONIC – Strategic Opportunities for New Innovative Changes in Music Policies, an Interreg Europe project bringing together European regions to improve the way public policies respond to the needs of the music sector.
On Wednesday 21 October, MESO will host the 3rd SONIC Local Stakeholder Meeting at Goethe-Institut Athen, bringing together local stakeholders to discuss the needs and priorities of Athens' music ecosystem and explore opportunities for closer cooperation with public institutions.
Building on previous exchanges, the meeting will focus on identifying practical areas for improvement, drawing inspiration from experiences in cities such as Hamburg, Groningen and Tampere. Particular attention will be given to how grassroots initiatives, music venues, festivals, independent businesses and public authorities can work more effectively together.
The aim is not simply to exchange good practices, but to identify priorities and realistic opportunities that could contribute to the development of the local music ecosystem.
And this is where we want to open the conversation further. As a new season of activities and collaborations begins, MESO Events Hub team wants to build on these discussions and create more opportunities for people across the music sector to meet, exchange ideas and explore common interests.
From artists and independent labels to venues, festivals, promoters, music entrepreneurs and cultural organisations, Athens has an active and diverse music community. Bringing these different perspectives together is essential if we want to move from individual initiatives towards stronger and more sustainable collaborations.
Athens Music Connect: Let's meet and explore what's next!
Following the SONIC stakeholder meeting, MESO invites the wider music community to an informal meet-up on Wednesday 21 October, from 18:30 to 20:00, at Goethe-Institut Athen.
An opportunity to reconnect after the summer, welcome the new season, meet new people and exchange ideas about what's happening across the music sector.
No formal presentations or complicated agendas. Just an open and friendly gathering, with refreshments, conversations and opportunities to discover new connections.
Over the coming months, MESO aims to continue and develop this dialogue, connecting its European collaborations with local initiatives and creating further opportunities for exchanges, partnerships and joint activities.
Whether you're an artist, promoter, festival organiser, venue operator, independent label, music entrepreneur or simply active in the wider music community, we'd be happy to see you there.
