Athens sets the tone for Music Innovation

October begins with renewed energy for MESO and Athens’ creative community, opening a new cycle of meetings that connect ideas, people, and institutions shaping the future of music and innovation.

From Community Exchange to European Collaboration

Earlier last week, MESO hosted the first Music Tech Europe Athens Meet-Up, a seasonal gathering that brought together young entrepreneurs, startups, and creatives living and working in Athens.

Joined by Chris Hocking, Konstantinos Karavezis (Stay Independent), Sakis Triantafyllakis (Orfium), Dimitris Komninos (MOOD), Georges Perot and Anastasia Kotsa (Panathenea), participants exchanged views on how music and technology can evolve from Greece to the wider region.

With the support of Orfium, Panathēnea, and Technopolis City of Athens, the evening highlighted what many already sense — the talent and ideas are here, and the next step is to connect them through continuous collaboration and shared infrastructure.

In that spirit, the Music Tech Europe Academy Open Call 2025 is now live, inviting Greek and regional startups to join the European community of mentors, investors, and peers driving change across the music and creative industries. Next Step: SONIC Kick-Off Meeting

Next week, the discussion moves from practice to policy with the Kick-Off Meeting of the "SONIC - Strategies Opportunities for a New Innovative Change in Music Policy", a European initiative on cultural policy and music innovation co-founded by the INTERREG EUROPE programme, on October 7 at Innovathens / Technopolis City of Athens, The meeting will gather representatives from, among others, the Ministry of Culture, Technopolis City of Athens, ACE-IN (Athens University of Economics & Business), EDEM Rights, Orfium, Action Esti, Crates, Fuzz Productions, The Factory Music Group, TMR Entertainment, and MESO Events.

Participants will discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping Greece’s music ecosystem, and define first steps towards a local Music Policy Cluster in Athens, part of Greece’s participation in the Interreg Europe Programme, connecting cultural innovation, policy development, and entrepreneurship within a European framework.

Building the Next Chapter

Together, these two gatherings mark the beginning of a coordinated path: from grassroots dialogue to policy engagement, from local exchange to European collaboration.

As October unfolds, MESO continues to support initiatives that build capacity, connect ecosystems, and prepare the ground for Athens Music Week 2026 and the launch of the AGORA Innovation Hub.
