About Swinging Europe
The self-governing Swinging Europe is a nonprofit organisation located in Herning Municipality. DSI Swinging Europe has been working internationally with art and culture since 1998. With music as one of our primary focus areas, we create artistic and cultural projects and activities through our primary efforts that include culture, music and talent development centered on young people aged 18-25.
We prioritise efforts to develop and participate in cultural cooperation both locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, by creating a solid foundation for exploring cultural projects. This concerns not only young talented musicians, but also the local community and society as a whole.
Among the local initiatives that strengthen the art and cultural scene of Herning municipality, Swinging Europe contributes annually to Kultur i Mørket (Culture in the Dark), which is a collaboration between all cultural organisations and institutions in Kulturgården. We also play a part in Spil Dansk Uge (Play Danish Music Week), a national week dedicated to Danish music.
Regionally, Swinging Europe facilitated and organised Gullestrup Byfestival in 2016, where we coordinated, planned and arranged a festive day of live music, activities and events that included and activated local residents of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
At an international level, projects like PLAY!GROUND LIVE, the Nordic pilot project PLAY!GROUND LIVE NORDIC, NIMPE, Culture ShoX and the European Jazz Orchestra to expand and create a strong foundation for international and interdisciplinary collaboration. The projects furthermore support young talented musicians in their effort to engage in the national, as well as international music scene.
