Network Partners Aims and Goals
The mission of the Greek Coordinating Office is the organization, coordination and development of events for the European Music Day in Greece, while also representing Greece (coordinator) and Athens (coordinator, artistic and organizational) in the European Network. The Greek Coordinating Office “MESO” is a civil non-profit corporation founded in 1998 with the support of the Greek and the French Ministry of Culture, according to European standards and statutes of European coordination office.
From the first edition, the Municipality of Athens was one of the most valuable supporter of the Idea, strengthening the production since the earliest events in June 1999. Today, E.M.D. is both the widest music event of Athens (180 bands, choirs and orchestras – 140 events locations, on average / 3 days) and the only simultaneous national music event of such scale in Greece (120 events per day and 360 events on average figures – except for the Athenian events).
In 13 years, additionally to the concerts and the show cases of the summer period, European Music Day Hellenic Network Greece has a constant development at national level, with cities (24 cities in 2010 and 35 cities in 2011) participation increasing year after year.
